Acoustic impedance of perforations in contact with fibrous material

چکیده
Acoustic impedance of perforations in contact with fibrous material, as well as air alone, is experimentally determined in the absence of mean flow. Different porosities 2.1, 8.4, 13.6, and 25.2 % and hole diameters 0.249 and 0.498 cm are applied for perforations, along with two fiber filling densities 100 and 200 kg/m3 to illustrate the effect of variations in such parameters on the perforation impedance. A modified impedance tube setup is developed for the measurement of the acoustic impedance of perforations in contact with fibrous material, and the air alone. The complex wave-number and characteristic impedance of the fibrous material are also experimentally obtained in this study to utilize such properties for the calculation of acoustic impedance of perforations in contact with the material. The experimental results show that both resistance and reactance of the perforations in contact with air decrease as the porosity increases. It is also shown that the fibrous material significantly increases both the resistance and reactance. For a given filling density, both resistance and reactance decrease as the porosity increases, except for the specific samples with highest porosity 25.2% . © 2006 Acoustical Society of America. Impact of perforation impedance on the transmission loss of reactive and dissipative silencers.
The effect of perforation impedance on the acoustic behavior of reactive and dissipative silencers is investigated using experimental and computational approaches. The boundary element method (BEM) is applied for the prediction of transmission loss of silencers with different perforation geometries. The variations are considered in the porosity (8.4 and 25.7%) and hole diameter (0.249 and 0.498...
متن کاملThe Influence of Fiber Crimp on Acoustic Performance of Polypropylene Fibrous Batt
This paper reports on the effect of fiber crimp frequency on sound absorption capability of staple polypropylene nonwoven batts. Stuffer box was used to impart crimp to spun tow. Crimping of the tow renders the fibers the required textile applicability. In this work, polypropylene batts composed of staple fibers with linear densities of 9, 14, and 18 denier were employed. Three crimp frequency ...

A two-dimensional analytical solution is developed to determine the acoustic performance of a perforated single-pass, concentric cylindrical silencer filled with fibrous material. To account for the wave propagation through absorbing fiber and perforations, the complex characteristic impedance, wave number, and perforation impedance are employed. With expressions for the eigenvalues and eigenfu...

The acoustic behavior of perforated dissipative circular mufflers with empty extended inlet/outlet is investigated in detail by means of a two-dimensional (2D) axisymmetric analytical approach that matches the acoustic pressure and velocity across the geometrical discontinuities, and the finite element method (FEM). The complex characteristic impedance, wavenumber, and perforation impedance are...
متن کاملA finite element approach for the acoustic modeling of perforated dissipative mufflers with non-homogeneous properties
In this work, a finite element approach is presented for modelling sound propagation in perforated dissipative mufflers with non-homogeneous properties. The spatial variations of the acoustic properties can arise, for example, from uneven filling processes during manufacture and degradation associated with the flow of soot particles within the absorbent material. First, the finite element metho...
